[CLOSURE ALERT] Buckhead Barbecue Joint Bows Out

After taking a hiatus in December, Greater Good BBQ has seemingly closed for good in Chastain Park.  The restaurant, which opened in September 2013, was located at 4441 Roswell Road, alongside sibling eateries Fellini's Pizza and La Fonda Latina.  Employees at both Fellini's and La Fonda confirm that the closure of Greater Good is permanent.

Greater Good is the third concept from the Fellini's group to have opened in the onetime Taco Bell building near Wieuca and Roswell Roads.  Three on The Tree, a chef-crafted froyo shop from chef Julia LeRoy was first, then came Ringside Franks & Shakes, a hot dog and shakes joint, and then Greater Good.

Fellini's previously closed Greater Good locations in East Lake (December 2019) and the original in Tucker (May 2020).  In 2019 Greater Good also closed what had been a counter service only, takeout-oriented location on Howell Mill Road in West Midtown.

At the time of the Tucker closing, co-owner Clay Harper indicated that he and his partners opted to keep the Chastain Park location open as they had "an ownership interest in the building."

It's unclear what if any immediate plans Harper and his business partners have for the property.

Are you sad to see The Greater Good BBQ close their last remaining location?  What would you like to see open in place of The Greater Good BBQ in Chastain Park?  Who in the greater metro Atlanta area do you think makes the best barbecue?

Please share your thoughts below.

Only found about its existence a short time ago. Sorry to see it close, I would've liked to have tried it out.

This was such sad news! We love that place! It was the best barbecue food around. We always got carry-out when we had large groups and my husband and I went there to eat often. The people there were wonderful as well. We will definitely miss this place!

We also hate to see them go. BBQ and sides were fabulous.

Does anyone know what they are doing with their gift certificates (redeeming for cash or allowing use at Fellini's or La Fonda)? Or does someone know the owner/rep to ask?

The BBQ was great. But by November they were skimping on the fries with your order and the prices had increased well above the rate of inflation. Hate to see it go, though.

This was a solid Q joint and I will miss it. Would love to see another decent bbq place take over the smoker but won't count on it. Meanwhile, Heirloom is my fave.

So sad. Enjoyed the BBQ and sides a lot, and particularly enjoyed the super friendly service from Tony, Angela, Morgan and Christie!! And my cup of wine while waiting for to-go orders.

The best Q in ATL. It was part of my weekly routine to have lunch every Thursday at GG. The staff was incredible and Tony is a masterful BBQ chef. So hope that they find a new location to satisfy my Q craving.

Definitely my favorite BBQ. Living down the street we got takeout at least once a month. The other local places don’t compare.

I’m so very sad. We would drive from West Cobb to eat there. The bbq was by far the best. I would love to see them open a restaurant in West Cobb. We could use a “real” bbq restaurant in our neighborhood.

BBQ is just so tough. The food was great but that wasn’t enough. The space was too small, parking sucked, and they were never going to sell much alcohol in that small space. Sad to see them go.

So many folks loved this place! Please open somewhere else.

This was the best place ever. Like others who commented - amazing food. Amazing service. Very consistent. On time for large orders. The best bbq joint in Atlanta from my opinion. I am so very sad to see them close down. Please please come back!!!!

Another great local restaurant gone!! It was a regular stop for me and I always brought out of town friends there. No other BBQ around was as good.

This was my favorite cue in Atlanta. The people were so nice. I loved their ribs, brisket, and fried okra. They were a real family small biz, not a chain. Hope something wonderful opens in the location. So sad to hear they're gone. Thank u for such wonderful food and service. They will be missed.

BBQ The Greater good had the best BBQ in Atlanta. The beef brisket was mouth watering and delicious. The rest of the Q items were also good and the wings and fried pickles were special. They need to open in Gainesville on the square.
