[ALERT] Renovating Buckhead Shopping Center Lands Exciting New Tenants

The shopping center previously known as Peachtree Piedmont Crossing (aka Disco Kroger center) has landed several new tenants ahead of its reopening in 2024.  Renamed Buckhead Landing in 2022 and slated to be anchored by a new Publix in 2024, the center has in recent weeks signed agreements with both local groups and national chains to open in the reimagined property.

ToNeTo Atlanta in 2021 was first to report that Publix would replace Kroger as anchor of the popular Buckhead center.  ToNeTo Atlanta also exclusively reported this past June that Boston-based Burtons Grill & Bar was opening in the center.

Now, and perhaps more thrilling to locals, comes news that Aviva by Kameel is opening a new spot in the center!  The new Aviva will occupy a 2,500 square foot space to the left of Piu Bello, an existing pizza shop, a few doors down from existing Szechuan eatery Urban Wu.  The Buckhead Landing Aviva marks the third overall location of the popular Mediterranean eatery following the original and flagship at  The Hub at Peachtree Center downtown and the satellite shop at Coda in Midtown.

For those unfamiliar, Aviva by Kameel is a counter-service Mediterranean eatery that is widely regarded as being one of the best in the city.  The eatery has plenty of vegetarian options like falafel and creamed spinach but also popular meat options like their rosemary chicken, lamb shawarma and roasted salmon.

Handel's Homemade Ice Cream, a new-to-market ice cream shop, is also opening in the center.  According to a newly updated site plan, Handel's will occupy a 1,975 square foot endcap near Publix in space most recently home to Burgerfan, and for a while before that, Sushi Bar Yu-Ka.  The Buckhead outpost of Handel's will be at least the second in metro Atlanta for the Canfield, Ohio-based brand.  ToNeTo Atlanta reported December 7 that another Handel's franchise is planned for a new strip center along Peachtree Parkway in Cumming.  Based on their menu, Handel's offers a similar variety of flavors and offerings to that of Bruster's.   A guide from National Geographic titled "The 10 Best of Everything" named Handel's its number 1 ice cream [on the planet].

In addition to the 55,520 square foot Publix, Burtons, Aviva by Kameel and Handel's, several other new additions are planned for the center.

Carter's is also opening in the center and will occupy a newly created 8,796 square foot space.  Carter's space is all of the old Jason's Deli plus a little from a former tenant next door.  Carter's, which owns the Carter's and Osh Kosh B'Gosh brands, is headquartered at Phipps Tower near Phipps Plaza, about a mile away.  Carter's previously closed in Peachtree Battle shopping center and never opened their planned "flagship" in Phipps Plaza, so this new store would seem to serve as a replacement for both.

Golf Galaxy, a golf-centric retailer owned by Dick's Sporting Goods, plans to open in the junior anchor space to the right of Publix.  The 20,119  square foot space was for many years home to World Market, but has in recent years played host to temporary "experiences" such as Nickelodeon Slime City and Candytopia, among others.  The Buckhead Landing Golf Galaxy will mark the second in the state following the 2020 opening of it and Dick's in a portion of the former Sears at Cumberland Mall.

Smoothie King, which was an existing tenant in the center. is relocating a few spaces away to make room for Burtons.  New locations of Waxing the City and Alloy Personal Training are also opening in Buckhead Landing.

Property materials indicate there are only three spaces left to lease and that the center plans to "reopen" in phases beginning next summer.

Are you excited for the additions planned for Buckhead Landing?  Have you been to Aviva by Kameel?  What are types of businesses would you like to see open in Buckhead Landing?

So many new stores for the Buckhead criminals to ruin!

Nothing going in interests me at all. And as much as I love Publix, I seriously doubt I will ever patronize this particular store due to all of the congestion in the area, human and otherwise.

This is a nice update for that tired old center.

Bring back the Limelight. No other nightclub has ever come close to that club. The shopping center had its heyday then.

Not to mention the crime!

So excited to hear about Aviva’s new location.

Screw Limelight. Nasty

Wonder how long it will take for the Buckhead hoodrats and homeless to ruin it? Like Chris Rock said "grand opening, grand closing!"

Give it a few weeks after opening and the inaugural shoot-em up in the parking lot will occur along with trashed Publix bathrooms littered with gang graffiti (which Publix never cleans up).

The Trump apocalypse has ruined Buckhead. It's a war zone there every day. I used to live there. I'm too afraid to even drive there anymore

Then don’t. We don’t need any scared racists.

Not true. The other Publix locations within three miles are perfectly clean and great!

What is with all the hysterical people who crawl out of the woodwork every time the word "Buckhead" is mentioned on this blog? It's not even close to the most dangerous neighborhood in the city, but you'd think it were the Gary of 20 years ago reading these comments.

Neither Trump or Biden had anything to do with the cesspool that Buckhead is becoming. Nobody wants to discuss the real elephant in the room.

if you dont have anything nice to sat about buckhead, please dont make racist keyboard warrior comments. You have been clogging the comments with dumb for too long

Where in Buckhead do you all live? Never have I ever felt afraid to be out. As for crime, what city or town doesn’t have it?
