[OPENING ALERT] First New Atlanta Area Caribou Coffee in Ten Years Opening This Weekend

ToNeTo Atlanta is pleased to report that metro Atlanta's first new Caribou Coffee in a decade is slated to open Friday, January 19 in Milton. The new shop is located at 12996 Alpharetta Highway, where it converted a former Del Taco restaurant.  ToNeTo Atlanta exclusively reported this past fall that Caribou Coffee was planning to open at least four new locations in metro Atlanta with this new Milton outpost now confirmed to be the first.

The full-service coffeehouse will feature both indoor and outdoor dining spaces as well as a drive thru. Caribou Perks members who visit the new location during grand opening weekend (January 19 through 21) and make a purchase of $5 or more will be entered to win free coffee for a year. Caribou Perks members can also check their account for an exclusive Buy One Get One (BOGO) 50% offer on handcrafted beverages to use during grand opening weekend.

Additionally, for every purchase made January 20 and 21, Caribou will donate $1 to the Alpharetta High School Athletic Association to help with their mission to maintain excellence for all Alpharetta High School athletic programs.

The company's upcoming metro Atlanta growth continues to focus on second generation and drive-thru enabled sites.  ToNeTo Atlanta exclusively reported this past October that Caribou Coffee was opening a new location at 3280 Barrett Lakes Boulevard, just off Chastain Road in Kennesaw, a stone's throw from the campus of Kennesaw State University.  Another new Caribou is planned for a former Hardee's at 4360 Atlanta Highway in Loganville.  The Loganville restaurant was one of more than a dozen Georgia Hardee's shuttered this past year by bankrupt franchisee Summit Restaurant Holdings.    In Cumming, Caribou is opening at 580 Peachtree Parkway in new multi-tenant development not far from The Collection at Forsyth.  The coffee shop will occupy an 1,800 square foot endcap space with a drive-thru.

A Caribou Coffee representative was unable to provide any updates on timing for the other Atlanta area openings, saying only that they are expected to open later this year.

The Minnesota-based chain has in recent years closed more locations than it has opened in metro Atlanta, but the new locations mark a return to growth for the brand.

Caribou Coffee was in 2013 acquired by German private equity firm JAB Holding Company, a multi-billion dollar firm that also owns Panera Bread, Einstein Bros. Bagels, Peet's Coffee, Pret a Manger and Bruegger's Bagels, among other brands.  Caribou is today part of Panera Brands, a JAB-controlled holding company.

There are currently just six Caribou Coffee locations in metro Atlanta: Peachtree and Piedmont in Buckhead, 10th and Piedmont in Midtown, Peachtree Center and Truist Garden (Bridge Level) Downtown, and a pair of locations at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.  Of the six, only the Buckhead location is freestanding with a drive-thru.

Founded in 1992, as of September 26, 2023 Caribou Coffee had 329 company-owned stores, 139 "non-traditional" and 319 franchise locations in 11 countries.

Are you excited for the return of more Caribou Coffee shops to metro Atlanta?  Who do you think offers the best coffee in metro Atlanta? Where else would you like to see Caribou Coffee open?

Johns Creek, Cumming or Dawsonville please! My husband and i use to go their ( they closed that location many years ago) for a mini date night, having coffee by the fireplace. We loved the chocolate coffee bean served on top. Do they still do that?

I was A Caribou nut. I would be at that location every day of the week. During the week I would be there at 5:45 am before I had to go to Northside Hospital. The girls inside would already had my order ready for me because I was a regular customer. It was on the weekends I would take my adolescent son to sit and have a cup or two of coffee enjoy the atmosphere and teach him how to play chess or checkers. I met and said hello to all the regulars which was nice. I moved about 4 miles further outside the perimeter but still stayed a loyal customer. The last days were a bit sad for me. That place on Roswell Road felt like a home away from home. Just the best place to meet someone out for an hour or two of conversation outside patio. Bring one to Sandy Springs. I will be your poster boy.

I've been going the 10th and Piedmont location for years. I'm glad to see them increasing their presence in Atlanta.
