Fresh off their Atlanta debut at Midtown Promenade in Midtown, Handel's Ice Cream has announced that two additional Atlanta area shops will open before the end of the year. A new shop in Cumming is slated to open in November, followed by an exciting new location in Buckhead in December.
Handel's is slated to open November 21 and will celebrate the occasion with several promotions and giveaways including awarding "Free Ice Cream For A Year" to the first 100 guests at the shop on opening day. Winners will receive a business card sized voucher that provides for one complimentary small sugar/cake cone or dish per week for one year. The offer is good only at the Cumming shop and is valid only for those 18 and older.
Handel's Buckhead is slated to debut December 12 and will mark the Youngstown, Ohio-based chain's 150th shop nationwide! (Whataburger this past January celebrated an opening in Atlanta marking its 1,000th nationwide.) The company plans to commemorate the occasion with an extra special opening event, details of which are expected soon. The Buckhead shop is located in Buckhead Landing (3330 Piedmont Road), the former "Disco Kroger" center, that has in recent days welcomed new locations of both Burtons Grill & Bar and Aviva by Kameel.
ToNeTo Atlanta exclusively reported November 8 that Atlanta's latest Publix is slated to open in the center December 4.
A guide from National Geographic titled "The 10 Best of Everything" named Handel's its number 1 ice cream [on the planet]!
Jennifer Schuler, most recently CEO of Wetzel's Pretzels, was named CEO of Handel's this past March. Among her objectives are growing Handel's as she did Wetzel's, which under her direction grew from 200 to 350 units.
According to its website, Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream is made fresh daily at each store using the best ingredients available. The company has created more than 100 different flavors with local Handel's offering 45 flavors at all times including ice creams, sherbets, sorbets, "ices," and fat-free and no sugar added options.
Sources close to the company tell ToNeTo Atlanta that Handel's continues to scout metro Atlanta for corporate and franchise-owned locations.
Have you been to Handel's? Who in metro Atlanta do you think makes the best ice cream? Where in metro Atlanta would you like to see Handel's open next?

Handels is the best ice cream hands down! A location at Mall of GA would be as the Bruisters location seems to be permanently closed or renovations are VERY slow moving
Very excited, but isn't this the company that doesn't offer any samples?
Good memory! That was our experience at a franchised location in Palm Springs but we have since confirmed that is a rarity in the chain and that the locations in Atlanta (some of which will be corporately owned) WILL offer samples.
Thank you Handel's for starting in the city and moving outwards!!!! I'll be a constant customer.
Good luck parking in the midtown location. Went there last Sunday morning and drove in circles for fifteen minutes, waiting and waiting. Parking in the back section is all paid parking so that's a fail too. Another paid parking lot that's driving away business...
The paid parking in the back offers the first two hours free. I eat at Apres Diem all the time and have never had an issue.
2 hours free? Not what the signs say in the back
I've always wondered how any of these ice cream places make it. Wonder how much their business drops off from November-March
Again, I eat at Apres Diem all the time and have been since before the paid parking was instituted. Are you telling me I dont know what I'm talking about? Scan the QR code and open their website. It'll allow 2 hours free. Sheesh.
Oh, so the signs that say you have to pay actually don't make you pay for the first two hours? Then why doesn't it say that on the signs. Something you would think they'd point out on the sign. If I see a sign that says pay, I'm gonna believe what it says and not take the time to park, scan a qr code, and THEN find out it's free for 2 hours. How many people have driven off instead?
Visited that parking lot this morning. There are about 200 signs that say Pay to park. I saw 4 signs that say 2 hours free WITH REGISTRATION and to and to scan the code.
Today there are 679 signs that say pay to park and only 1/3 of a sign that says free par……..
The first two hours in the lot are free…
