[EXCLUSIVE] Long-Vacant Buckhead Building to Welcome Big New Asian Restaurant

A big new Asian restaurant is coming soon to Buckhead.  Planning documents reviewed by ToNeTo Atlanta indicate that "Stix & Savor Asian Cuisine" is slated to open in the vacant over 8,800 square foot building at 3102 Piedmont Road.

The large freestanding building has been empty for more than a decade following the September 2015 closure of Ocean Prime, a steakhouse from Ohio's Cameron Mitchell Restaurants.  Ocean Prime opened in October 2011, having itself replaced Jazz cafe Sambuca, which had occupied the prime location for more than a dozen years.

Stix & Savor is being opened by entrepreneur and restaurateur Javarius Gay.  A native of Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, Gay today calls Atlanta home and is owner or part owner of several Atlanta area establishments.

Gay's current lounges and restaurants include Prime on Peachtree and Prime Cigar on Peachtree Street in Midtown, Prime Express Bar on 10th Street in Midtown and The Boiler Seafood Atlanta on Piedmont Road near the Lindbergh MARTA station.  His newest concept, Afro District ATL, opened earlier this month on 10th Street in Midtown, replacing what had most recently been Henry's.  Afro District is described as a West African restaurant and hookah lounge.

Real estate filings indicate that Gay purchased the Buckhead building and its .85 acres on Piedmont Road for $6.5 million in April.

Little is known yet about Stix & Savor, its menu, concept, or when it may open.

If Stix & Savor is anything like Gay's other concepts, it seems likely it will try to fill the Asian-lounge void left in Buckhead when Aja closed more than a decade ago.

What are your thoughts on the planned opening of Stix & Savor Asian Cuisine in Buckhead?  Have you been to any of Gay's other restaurants?  What type of restaurant would you most like to see open in Buckhead?

Please share your thoughts below.
