[EXCLUSIVE] Lidl Lands Lawrenceville Highway Location

A new Lidl grocery store is planned near Decatur where it will replace an automotive business.  The new Lidl, planned for 1788 Lawrenceville Highway, would replace Vol Repair II which is the latest automotive business to operate from the freestanding building.  The new Lidl would be located a stone's throw from where rival grocer Aldi opened a new store in Decatur Crossing February 1, 2018. 

[EXCLUSIVE] Marlow's Tavern Pulls Out of The Prado in Sandy Springs

Marlow's Tavern has closed their outpost at The Prado, a development just inside the perimeter, in Sandy Springs.  The restaurant, which opened in late 2013, reportedly closed earlier this month.  The roughly 2,800 square foot space has been emptied of basically everything, with little left to indicate Marlow's was ever there.  The restaurant's closure is the latest in a string of closures at the mixed-use development.  Following the Sandy Springs closure, fifteen Marlow's remain in business in the greater metro Atlanta area plus an additional five in central Florida.

[Arr, Matey] Captain's Boil Looks for a "Juicy" Piece of Atlanta Cajun Seafood Market

A new restaurant offering Cajun seafood is entering the Atlanta market.  The Captain's Boil, which got its start in Toronto, Canada in November 2015, will open four locations in metro Atlanta over the next 100 days or so.  The first Atlanta area location will open at the front of Cumberland Mall near Smyrna, where it will open in place of Ted's Montana Grill which closed last spring.  Sources close to the restaurant tell ToNeTo Atlanta that the Cumberland outpost is slated to open in the third week of November, construction and staffing permitting.

[EXCLUSIVE] Popular Sandy Springs Eatery Relocating to East Cobb

Popular Cantonese eatery Canton Cook II is on the move.  The restaurant, which  is currently located in Sandy Springs, is packing up and heading to East Cobb.   Currently located in the LA Fitness-anchored Sandy Springs Crossing shopping center at the corner of Abernathy and Roswell Roads, the new outpost will be about 15 miles away.   

[ALERT] The Restaurant That Reportedly "Inspired" Flower Child is Coming to Atlanta

A new restaurant offering healthy bowls, sandwiches, wraps, juices and shakes, among other items, will next year make its debut in metro Atlanta.  Original ChopShop, a concept we've heard great things about but have yet to try, will open at 2274 Peachtree Road in Peachtree Square shopping center in south Buckhead.  The new eatery replaces what had most recently been a Panera [Bread] but the roughly 4,600 square foot space has been empty since Panera's late 2019 closure.

[WOW] Whataburger Wanders up to Woodstock

Planning documents suggest that Whataburger is looking to replace a medical office with a new restaurant in Woodstock.  The burger chain is scheduled to appear before the Woodstock Planning Commission December 2 to present its plans.  The new Whataburger would be built on the site of Cherokee Family Medical Center (formerly Piedmont Physicians Woodstock), a two story medical building at 9766 Highway 92.  The parcel is just under one acre.  

[EXCLUSIVE] Chipotle Hopes to "Clean Up" in Former Dunwoody Dry Cleaners

Chipotle Mexican Grill plans to bring their new "Chipotlane" to Dunwoody, according to permits recently filed with the city.  The new location, 1614 Mount Vernon Road in Dunwoody Village, was most recently an outpost of Tide Dry Cleaners, but has sat idle since Tide's 2020 closure.  Tide's Dunwoody location was one of four franchises locally, but all of them - including others in Alpharetta, Duluth and Johns Creek - have closed.   The building and its drop-off/pick-up doors will be converted to suit the needs of the quick-serve burrito joint.

[EXCLUSIVE] New Avondale/Decatur Publix Slated to Open November 3

Publix Super Market is slated to open its newest Atlanta area grocery store November 3.  The new store, which anchors the new Sam's Crossing development, is located at 2720 East Ponce de Leon Avenue, officially in the City of Decatur, but at edge of Avondale Estates. The new store measures 53,875 square feet, a little bigger than the grocer's current 48,387 square foot prototype stores.

[EXCLUSIVE] "Top Chef" Creates F&B "Experiences" at New Hyatt Centric Buckhead

Several months ahead of schedule, the new Hyatt Centric Atlanta Buckhead is slated to open in December behind Lenox Square in Buckhead.  The new hotel, built on the one acre site of a former ATM, is situated behind Bloomingdale's, on the edge of GA-400 and with direct pedestrian access to the Gordon C. Bynum Jr. bridge and Buckhead's "Beltline," PATH400.   The 16 story hotel features 218 guestrooms as well as two food and beverage options conceptualized by James Beard award winning "Top Chef" Hugh Acheson!  

[CLOSURE ALERT] Huey Luey's Goes Silencio in Sandy Springs

Huey Luey's Mexican Kitchen & Margarita Bar has shuttered its Sandy Springs restaurant at 6650 Roswell Road.  The two level, 6,500 square foot eatery which opened five years ago reportedly closed earlier this week, which would seem to coincide with the completion of a five year lease. The Sandy Springs closure leaves the locally owned group with two locations, the original in Hiram which opened in 2011, and a second location in Acworth which debuted in 2014.

[EXCLUSIVE] Popular Italian Eatery Bambinelli's is on the Move in Tucker

Local Italian favorite Bambinelli's will soon expand and relocate their popular Tucker area restaurant.  Currently situated in the Northlake Village shopping center behind Northlake Mall on Northlake Parkway, Bambinelli's plans to move to the former O'Charley's restaurant, 2039 Crescent Centre Boulevard, about two miles miles away.  O'Charley's closed their Northlake location in June 2019 with the freestanding building having sat vacant since then.  A Kennesaw O'Charley's which closed "temporarily" in 2020 is expected to become home to metro Atlanta's first Whataburger in 2022.) While some ToNeTo Atlanta readers had hoped that the Galaxy Diner (which closed on Henderson Mill Road in late 2019) might relocate to the former O'Charley's, and others too had hoped Cracker Barrel might open, the relocation of Bambinelli's, a locally owned, family run restaurant, should be welcome news to all.  

[PHOTOS] Progress Being Made at Several Upcoming Alpharetta Eateries

ToNeTo Atlanta has reported in months past about several new restaurants planned for Alpharetta.  Among the new eateries are a first-of-its-kind in Georgia Shake Shack with drive-thru, metro Atlanta's first Surcheros, a growing burrito chain, a new and bigger Chick-fil-A on North Point Parkway, and Atlanta's first Bolay, a Florida-based healthy bowl eatery, among others.  While some readers might think ToNeTo Atlanta is everywhere, (which we try to be), the reality is we aren't, and we rely on our readers for tips, leads and sometimes pictures, too!  One of our loyal OTP readers, Clifford Martin, was kind enough to supply us with some "progress pics" so that we share with you the status of various Alpharetta area projects.  

[UPDATE] A Peek Inside the Progress at Northlake Mall

When Northlake Mall opened on October 6, 1971, the mall was home to exciting new locations of Sears, JCPenney and Davison's.  Wednesday October 6, 2021, the mall, along with its new owners, the Tucker-Northlake CID, and several other politicians, business owners and one lucky millennial who grew up shopping it regularly, celebrated the mall's 50th anniversary!  Many would consider Northlake a "dead mall," and they're not wrong.  The new owners realize this and have plans to significantly reduce the space dedicated to traditional mall services.

ToNeTo Atlanta exclusively announced in August that we had identified that the first Atlanta area Whataburger restaurant is slated for Kennesaw.  We are now pleased to share that a second Whataburger is planned for Cumming, with a third in the pipeline for another OTP locale which we will reveal shortly.

[EXCLUSIVE] Dunkin' Hopes to Fill Donut Hole in Chastain Park

A new Dunkin' is planned for Chastain Park.  ToNeTo Atlanta has confirmed that following the recent demolition of the former Enterprise Rent-A-Car at 4487 Roswell Road, a new DTO (Drive-Thru Only) Dunkin' will replace it.  The Enterprise office, which in years past had previously housed a Blimpie sub shop, among other businesses, closed last year amidst the pandemic.
