The owners of UrbanTree Cidery took to Facebook Monday morning to announce that they will be closing their Tasting Room May 19. The locally owned business has been a fixture on Atlanta's Westside since April 2016 and billed itself as "Atlanta's First Cidery." The cidery was opened by Atlanta dentist Tim Resulta, his wife Maria, and Maria's sister, Jackie.
In an email to ToNeTo Atlanta, co-owner and cidermaker Jackie Waice said "The reason for our decision was based solely on licensing issues we are currently facing with the state. These new restrictions are making it impossible to grow in manufacturing while still operating our tasting room in the manner we have been operating since our opening."
Although not explicitly said in the post, not only will the Tasting Room close in May, but the production facility will, too, given they share the same roughly 4,500 square foot space at 1465 Howell Mill Road. Production will reportedly be moved to another as yet undetermined location where the cider will be produced by a co-packer.
Fellow Atlanta-area cidery Treehorn Cider was forced to vacate their longtime Marietta home last June after their property was sold and the new landlord reportedly claimed that the production of alcohol on their property went against their religion. In the months since, the cider maker has continued to make appearances at festivals and select events but has yet to announce a new location.
Atlanta Hard Cider opened its production facility and tasting room on Roswell Street near The Big Chicken in Marietta in October 2021 after plans to open on Huff Road in West Midtown failed to materialize.

Never drink hard cider and never went to this place. But it shows how archaic and arcane Georgia's liquor laws are. Reforms are badly needed so as to not chase businesses like this out. But the out-of-touch Governor Kemp and his right wing legislators, who claim to be pro-business, would never expand or change the state's liquor laws. Licensing laws must change!
Strange concept and stupid name. I'm surprised it's lasted as long as it has, but I guess more people like cider more than I imagined.
Yes everything is dumb and stupid. Except Arby’s, go eat there. Stuff a beef and cheddar in your punim.
