[ALERT] LongHorn Steakhouse Shutters Historic Atlanta Restaurant

LongHorn Steakhouse took advantage of the long weekend to quietly shutter two Atlanta area restaurants.  The Orlando-based chain which got its start in Atlanta closed restaurants in both Buckhead and Sandy Springs seemingly with no plans to reopen elsewhere nearby as they did with their new East Cobb location this past fall.

[UPDATE] Torchy's Bringing Its Tacos to Crowded Intown Neighborhood This Summer

Atlanta's first location of Torchy's Tacos is under construction and targeting a July opening, according to a real estate executive at the growing chain.  ToNeTo Atlanta was first to report on the Texas-based chain's intentions of entering the Atlanta market.

[EXCLUSIVE] Kacey's Home Cooking Closing, Growing Bank Eyes Space

Kacey's Home Cooking, a Tucker area mainstay for more than a decade, will soon close for good.  The restaurant, located at 3925 LaVista Road at its intersection with Montreal Road, is slated to close at the end of June.  A local developer that previously replaced an old Tucker area Wells Fargo with a new Starbucks and Willy's Mexicana Grill among other tenants, has the Kacey's property under contract with plans to replace it with a bank.

[CLOSURE ALERT] Local Neighbors Have One Less Applebee's to Ignore

Applebee's Grill+Bar has closed its longstanding restaurant at 4353 Lawrenceville Highway in Tucker's Cofer Crossing.  The restaurant, which occupied a roughly 5,000 square foot out parcel of the Walmart and Kroger anchored power center, reportedly closed suddenly on May 13, without prior notice to patrons or staff.  

[EXCLUSIVE] Wendy's to Shutter Brookhaven Restaurant After 50 Years in Business

Metro Atlanta will soon lose yet another Wendy's restaurant.  The Wendy's at 3383 Buford Highway in an outparcel of Northeast Plaza is due to close by the end of May.  The restaurant, which property records indicate was built in 1974, never received the brand's popular "image activation" renovation and still looks like a 70s era restaurant.

[EXCLUSIVE] TJX-Owned Outdoors Retailer Sierra Secures Suburban Space

The TJX Companies, Inc., owners of TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and HomeGoods, among other retailers, plan to bring their growing Sierra store to metro Atlanta.  ToNeTo Atlanta has been tracking several potential locations but the first to be confirmed officially is coming to Henry Town Center, a large "power center" at 1772 Jonesboro Road in McDonough.  

[ALERT] Struggling Seafood Chain Red Lobster Could Soon Sleep With the Fishes

Struggling casual restaurant Red Lobster, known perhaps as much for seafood as for their Cheddar Bay Biscuits, abruptly closed 48 units May 13 as it works to remain a going concern and avoid complete collapse.  The closures included three restaurants in Georgia.  The company has hired a third-party liquidation firm to auction off restaurant equipment at the affected locations.

[CLOSURE ALERT] Nur Kitchen Closes in Doraville For A Second Time, Could Reopen Elsewhere

Nur Kosher Kitchen on Buford Highway in Doraville has closed after little more than a year.  The restaurant, located at 7130 Buford Highway (outparcel of Global Forum shopping center), first opened in 2020 before closing in late 2022, only to be reopened by a new owner in January 2023.  The restaurant closed as of May 9, according to a post to its official Facebook page.

Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant is planning to make its Atlanta debut.  The upscale American restaurant with a focus on wine has inked a lease for its first Atlanta location near North Point Mall in Alpharetta.

[ALERT] Kroger to Shutter Vintage "Greenhouse" Store in Vinings

Kroger will later this summer close one of its oldest stores in Georgia after more than four decades in business.  The store, which anchors Riverview Village (3300 Cobb Parkway) at the corner of Cobb Parkway and Paces Mill Road in Vinings, is slated to close as of August 17 after 44 years in business.  According to a Kroger representative, the store's lease is due to expire August 30.

[ALERT] Mall Mainstay Rue21 to Liquidate, More Than 500 Stores Closing

In a sign of the times, a once high-flying retailer plans to close all of its stores on the heels of its second bankruptcy filing in the past few years.  Rue21, which at its peak in 2017 operated more than 1,200 stores nationwide, announced Friday that it will close all of its current 540 stores and wind down operations over the next four to six weeks.
