This past June ToNeTo Atlanta was first to report on a third Velvet Taco planned for metro Atlanta. We are pleased to share now that, the new restaurant, located in the new High Street project in Dunwoody, is slated to open July 1! Velvet Taco Dunwoody is situated in a 2,200 square foot corner space (100 Middle Street) along Perimeter Center Parkway, across from Perimeter Mall.
The High Street location, the chain's first "OTP," joins the company's original Atlanta outpost at Buckhead Market Place on West Paces Ferry Road in Buckhead which opened in 2019 and their second outpost at The Interlock along Howell Mill Road in West Midtown, which opened in 2021.
Hours for the Dunwoody Velvet Taco are not yet listed on the company's website but the existing Atlanta area units both feature late night hours throughout the week. The West Midtown and Buckhead locations opens at 11 am each day and are open until midnight Sunday-Wednesday and 1 a.m. on Thursday. The West Midtown Velvet Taco is open until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday with the Buckhead location open even later until 3 a.m.
Velvet Taco - which proudly promotes its restaurants as offering "tacos without borders" - features a wide variety of taco options including the Nashville hot tofu, Cuban pig, Kobe smash burger, fish 'n chip and the chicken & waffle, a brunch favorite that is served all day. The quick-serve restaurant also offers its version of loaded tots (tots with herb goat cheese, smoked cheddar, avocado crema, chile butter, peppered bacon, micro greens) and "Kick Ass" Margaritas, on the rocks or frozen, among other offerings.
The Dallas, Texas-based restaurant also features a "WTF" or Weekly Taco Feature, a rotating special taco that changes each week.
Clay Dover, President of Velvet Taco, told ToNeTo Atlanta in 2019 that the company is bullish on the Atlanta market and sees the opportunity for as many as eight Velvet Taco restaurants in metro Atlanta in the years to come.
At High Street, Velvet Taco joins previously announced eateries Agave Bandido, Cuddlefish, Nando's PERi PERi and Ben & Jerry’s, as well as new locations of Puttshack and The Hampton Social. Jaguar Bolera, a new "eatertainment" concept from Punch Bowl Social founder Robert Thompson, is also opening in the development, marking just the second location nationwide.
Phase 1 of High Street is expected to include 150,000 square feet of retail and restaurants, approximately 600 apartments, and approximately 90,000 square feet of new loft office space, all connected by a 3/4 acre public park. The overall project is 36 acres.
Are you excited about the addition of Velvet Taco to High Street in Dunwoody? Where else would you like to see Velvet Taco open in metro Atlanta? What other businesses would you like to see as part of High Street?

Velvet Taco is the best of the taco offerings to me. It kills bartaco with better drinks and better portions for the money spent. bartaco has a better ambiance, and the food is decent but I've seen fish sticks larger than the fish they put in their tacos at times.
If anyone knows of a better taco spot, please let me know cause I'll try it.
That development will have way too many restaurants and most will not do well, as evidenced by others in the immediate area that are struggling mightily or already closed.
Velvet tacos is way overpriced and is another chain- just what dunwoody does not need. There are way better options for tacos in dunwoody, with great real mexican restaurants nearby such as la botana and Chupito's (which has the best brisket tacos, fish tacos, barbecue tacos, and carnitas tacos in the area).
Velvet Taco is very good. But just wait for Torchy’s to hit town!
We will stick to Mr Taco in Roswell. Real street tacos and large salsa bar. Not a chain or franchise
Love Velvet Taco and their margaritas are their strength, in my opinion. I think they will do just fine in the area as I work right by it and plenty of people are coming back into the office at Perimeter Center.
My office had Velvet Taco catering twice and I was not impressed. Both times the food was cold and the portions seem small. Also the first time, I found a 2” bone in my chicken taco.
I've given VT in Buckhead two visits... Very blah to me. Food seemed dry and not zesty in any way. Quality of ingredients was good but just bland seasoning or something. Rather just hit Chipotle
