The Chai Box, a locally owned company selling chai blends and chai concentrate, has secured space for their first Chai Cafe and retail space. The company made the announcement this week on social media but did not disclose where the cafe would be or when it would open.
Doughnut Dollies closed in the 625 square foot space last August (and has since closed their original and last remaining location in Marietta, too), with the space sitting vacant in the months since.
Monica Sunny started The Chai Box in Marietta in 2017 and has grown the business via both direct to consumer (DTC) and retail partners like Nordstrom (online) and Costco (currently in thirteen California stores). The company's "The Chai Lover’s Set" was included in the coveted "Oprah's Favorite Things" list in 2021.
The family run business is currently headquartered off Franklin Gateway in Marietta, where the teas and concentrates are produced in small batches.
The Chai Box prides itself on its sustainability efforts and partners with Georgia-based Compost Now to compost the leftover tea and spices from their Chai concentrate production. This initiative diverts waste and has created more than four thousand pounds of compost or "chai mulch" as they call it, that can be repurposed for other efforts.
When contacted Sunday, Sunny indicated that she looks forward to bringing Atlanta their first Chai Cafe and plans to be open in November.
When the cafe opens, it will join a host of existing eateries in the area, including Mr. C's Bar & Grill, Domino's Pizza, Zunzi's, Arden's Garden, Fellini's Pizza, and Teriyaki Madness.
