[ALERT] CMX CinéBistro Calls it Quits in Peachtree Corners

CMX CinéBistro has closed its six screen theater at Peachtree Corners Town Center (5180 Town Center Boulevard) in Peachtree Corners.  When it opened on March 8, 2019, it was the second in metro Atlanta for the "dinner & a movie" theater operator, joining another in TOWN Brookhaven.

Real estate sources suggest that the theater space has been quietly marketed for lease for several months, but it's unclear if a replacement tenant has been secured.

Cinemex Holdings USA, Inc., the parent company of CMX, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy this past July, its second such filing in the past five years.  Cinemex Holdings USA itself is the U.S. division of Mexico City-based Cinemex, one of the largest cinema operators in Latin America.

The six screen, 560 seat Peachtree Corners location featured a full restaurant and bar, Barco 4K laser projectors, RealD XL 3D and a digital 7.1 sound system.  The lease was originally with Birmingham-based Cobb Theatres and their CinéBistro concept but ultimately opened as a CMX theater following Cobb's acquisition by CMX in October 2017.

The TOWN Brookhaven location, the group's first in the market, opened September 23, 2011.   At the onset of the pandemic, it closed temporarily in March 2020, and after CMX filed for bankruptcy the following month, it closed permanently in September 2020.

(LOOK Dine-In Cinemas opened in place of the former TOWN Brookhaven CinéBistro November 4, 2022, but while still open, its 31,710 square foot space is actively being marketed for lease.)

A third CMX CinéBistro opened September 27, 2019 at Halcyon ( 6215 Town Square) in Alpharetta.  The ten screen location remains open but has a not-so-stellar 3.2 star rating on Google with more than 1,000 reviews and many recent comments mentioning recurring issues like poor food quality, cleanliness issues and disappointing service.

The closure of  CMX CinéBistro's Peachtree Corners location follows the closure this past January of Regal Cinemas Hollywood 24 in Chamblee.

The Atlanta area has lost several other theaters in recent years including Regal Town Center Stadium 16 in Kennesaw, which closed September 27, 2020, Regal Stadium 22 in Austell, which closed June 6, 2023 (it's becoming a new Rural King), and AMC Fork & Screen which closed July 14, 2021 after 45 years in business and remains vacant.

Are you surprised to see CMX CinéBistro close in Peachtree Corners?  Where do you typically see movies?  What could theater operators do to make you return to theaters more frequently?

Please share your thoughts below.

That’s a shame but I’m not surprised with not much parking and it was kind of tucked away in the back & I’m not sure a lot of people knew it was there.

Not really surprised all of these theaters have poor service poor food and run out of items constantly

Seems like everyone realizes that the best thing about Movie Tavern and these is that you can watch a cheap movie with good seats as long as you don't eat.

This was a very nice place to watch a movie when it first opened. Very good food, comfortable, good service and well behaved patrons.

However, with the dearth of movies post Covid, the experience really dropped off. Limited food choices and high prices. At the most recent visit, there was no in-theater ordering so you had to place the order at the bar. Bartender tacked on an additional 20% tip beyond the 18% service charge that's always included.

You wonder how much longer remaining movie theaters can hang on with much of the customer base no longer in the habit of watching at movie release, instead choosing to wait until the movie becomes available on streaming.

Disappointed to see them close, but hopeful about what exciting, new tenant will move in! Maybe it will be an even better theater!

Movie theatres closing down is a sign of a poor economy.

Turn movie theatres into small concert venues and comedy clubs.

we used to love coming to this location, when the Brookhaven location closed.
Unfortunately, they scale back the menu, and then they scaled back service. The food was no longer good or consistent, and neither was the help. It’s a wonderful concept, and before Covid, we went there at least three times a month.
I think they had the best crabcakes and all of Atlanta. Unfortunately, we haven’t been to this location in forever, due to the poor customer service and subpar food.

Parking won't be a problem any longer, not with the movies and Lazy Dog closing up shop at the Peachtree Corners Town Green.

No, it will be ok! Something new will take its place and be even better.

We live 2 minutes from here and have this theater so many chances. HORRIBLE experiences every single time.

Anyone complaining about lack of parking is as ridiculous this time as you were when Lazy Dog closed. THERE'S A HUGE, FREE DECK DIRECTLY ADJACENT TO BOTH. You're just too suburban and lame to use it.

The free covered parking is a great asset! Whomever takes over the cinema space can enjoy that benefit for their customers and employees.

Look Cinemas in Town Brookhaven should be on deathwatch. Last week they had changed from bowls of good popcorn to generic bags of the most burnt nasty popcorn I've ever tasted, generic cups for the soda, and the bathrooms were messy as usual. They seem short staffed with one person getting tickets, working the bar, and taking food orders. Many of the seats in the theaters don't work even though they can't be that old.

I get it. It's expensive to run a place like this but not maintaining it is the kiss of death.
