[EXCLUSIVE] Growing Outdoors Retailer to Open Third Ever Store in Peachtree Battle

Another Atlanta area location of women's clothing and accessories retailer Talbots is due to close.  The Talbots at Peachtree Battle shopping center is expected to close on April 23 after several decades in business.   Employees at the store indicate that there are currently no plans for any special "liquidation" sale.

Talbots has in years past closed other Atlanta area stores in Phipps Plaza in Buckhead, Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody, and an outlet near Gwinnett Place Mall in Duluth, among others.  Following the Peachtree Battle closure, the company will continue to operate metro Atlanta stores in Vinings, Norcross, and East Cobb, among others.

In place of a portion of Talbots, upstart waterfowl waders and hunting gear retailer Chêne Gear will open just its third overall store.  The Memphis-based company released its first products in 2021 and in addition to its Memphis store, debuted its 16,000 square foot flagship store in Stuttgart, Arkansas, AKA "The Duck Capital of the World," an international destination for waterfowl hunting, in November 2024.

The new Peachtree Battle store will reportedly take about 4,000 square feet of the current Talbots space with the balance actively being marketed to other prospective tenants.

According to sources familiar with the retailer's Atlanta entrance, the decision to open in Peachtree Battle was based on catalog sales that were tracked not just to Buckhead but to the Peachtree Battle community specifically.

In metro Atlanta, Chêne Gear joins a growing list of retailers that specialize in similar apparel and accessories such as Orvis with locations in Buckhead and Alpharetta, Fish Hawk on Miami Circle in Buckhead, Sitka at The Battery Atlanta, as well as several Bass Pro Shops and other chain and independent stores.

If all goes well, Chêne Gear hopes to be open by this coming holiday shopping season.

Are you familiar with Chêne Gear?  Are you excited to have a Chêne Gear store in Buckhead?  What else would you like to see open in place of the balance of current Talbots space?

So sad to see Talbots close. It’s been my go-to for light casual shirts, skirts and basics for over 20 years. Monkees down below is ok but not as good as the old Lily Pulitzer. Dilliards at Atlantic Station is ok but not consistent. I guess its back to Lenox and Phipps. I love a good stroll around the mall anyway.

yep, that's what PB needs another "gear" store to match the other "outfitter" clothing stores in same area. SARK.

It should do well. Buckhead has a lot of urban outdoorsmen.

The day is soon coming when PTBSC will be demolished and replaced with high rise luxury apartments. To be honest, there is apparently such a shortage of these, that I'm surprised it hasn't already happened.

Nope. Won’t happen.

Why not?

@ 5:24, when those developers come flashing huge wads of cash, Branch Realty will fold like a cheap suit and sell it off in a flash.

Then call them and sell them your house. You can fold your suit and sell it on a flash
