Baraonda Ristorante, a locally owned, full-service Italian restaurant, has closed after nearly 25 years in business. The restaurant first opened at 710 Peachtree Street in Midtown near the Fox Theater in 2000 before closing in 2021 and then reopening in 2023 at 6075 Roswell Road in Sandy Springs.
The restaurant closed permanently as of Tuesday, August 25, with signs posted to the doors confirming the closure and thanking patrons for their years of support. No reason for the closure was provided.

The Baraonda in Sandy Springs measured about 3,800 square feet and like the former Midtown outpost, featured a spacious patio but overall was smaller and cozier than the nearly 7,000 square foot Midtown restaurant. Additionally, while the Midtown restaurant was located in the street level portion of the Crest on Peachtree apartment community, Baraonda Sandy Springs was also located on the bottom of an apartment building (Adley City Springs), but unlike Midtown, was not walking distance to The Fox.
Baraonda was owned by Costanzo Astarita and Mario Maccarrone, who are also partners in Publik Draft House on Peachtree Street in Midtown (2009), with Astarita having separately opened É Ke Pizza on New Paces Ferry Road in Vinings (2022).
The former Midtown Baraonda was subsequently occupied by "V Restaurant & Lounge" and later 'Belly Restaurant & Lounge," but is currently vacant and available for lease, according to online materials.
As for the Sandy Springs restaurant, a ToNeTo Atlanta reader tells us it could reopen as a new Korean BBQ spot, making it at least the third such business within a mile or so of the area. The Baraonda space is believed to be the "Sandy Springs Full Service Restaurant & Bar" currently listed as "Under Contract" by the Shumacher Group.
UPDATE - August 31: We have received confirmation that Baraonda was sold to the owners of Columbia, SC-based Korbiz Hospitality Group. The group, which currently operates 929 Kitchen & Bar and MOA Korean BBQ & Bar in Columbia, plan to open a new concept, MOA Korean Bistro, in place of Baraonda. According to the announcement, the new restaurant will feature "refined modern Korean cuisine, craft cocktails, and an elevated atmosphere."
As for Baraonda, we are hearing they are looking to return to Midtown.

They should have sold the space over their sign for video ads. That seems to be the money maker.
Loved the original midtown spot, great pizza. I don't know what happened afterwards.

Loved Midtown. Went often. Always enjoyed the moderately priced, good food. Never went to Sandy Springs. Just more of the ever evolving Atlanta restaurant scene.
Outpost if often used interchangeably to describe a "location" or "unit"
Language usage evolves over time, but when the “evolution” is actually just an obvious misuse of a term being used so often that it becomes normalized, that is not an improvement. It is confusing to say “outpost” when referring to the original location in Midtown of a restaurant that has expanded to the suburbs. So, your reliance on that “rule” is misguided. You can do better!

No, I did not understand what he meant because he misused the term. I obviously was able to determine what he was most likely trying to say, but that does not excuse the misuse. It was like when a parent knows what their kid means even though they said the wrong thing.
We’ll all just have to go on a three week cortisol detox because prices are so crazy at the grocery store!! Look up and down.
