Barnes & Noble will soon close their longstanding store at the Edgewood Retail District. The retailer made the closure announcement on their location-specific Facebook page Wednesday, saying that the store will close as of April 3. According to the post, the landlord [North American Development Group], did not offer the book retailer a lease renewal.
"It is a heavy heart that we announce we are closing this location on April 3, 2022. Unfortunately, the landlord has made the decision not to renew our lease. We have truly enjoyed being part of this community, and we are actively looking for other spaces in the area. If you have any ideas where we could open a new store close by, please email MyBarnesandNoble@bn.com with Edgewood Retail District in the subject line."
It's intriguing to hear that the company feels strongly enough about the market that they are already indicating they plan to reopen in the area.
Several sources confirm to ToNeTo Atlanta that off-price retailer Marshalls has leased the Barnes & Noble space and will open later this year. Sibling off-price retailer T.J. Maxx opened a store in Midtown Place across from Ponce City Market in 2012 where they backfilled a former Borders Books & Music store. Marshalls has in recent years relocated several Atlanta area stores, including one that will move to Merchants Walk in East Cobb, but the new Edgewood Retail District store was one of the first completely new stores for the chain in metro Atlanta in several years.
Barnes & Noble continues to operate more than a dozen other Atlanta area stores including those in Buckhead, Alpharetta, Dunwoody, Buford, and Morrow, among others. The company also operates university stores at Georgia Tech and Emory. The retailer in 2012 closed its store on Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth and in 2013 closed its store at Camp Creek Marketplace in East Point where today Beauty Master operates. A Barnes & Noble store on Cobb Parkway near Cumberland Mall is slated to close in the coming months to make way for a redevelopment that is expected to include several new restaurants.

Very sad to see any Barnes & Noble close. That store was the main reason I went to that shopping center. I like Marshall's but surprised to see it as a worthy replacement for Barnes and Noble.
The dumbing down of this country continues with the Fox Noise. We need bookstores. We need a healthy media and real newspapers and real alternative newspapers. We don't have that anymore. We're getting nothing but right wing propaganda. People need to read to question what's going on in this country.
B&N Cumberland is not slated for closure at this time. The deal for the Starbucks & Chicken place you are referencing fell through since it couldn't get through the zoning process.

Yuck. As if the world needs another Marshalls with fast fashion. This is horrible news, devastating to our family that has been customers ever since it opened. Our children spend their childhood here with free weekly story time. I hate this so much and you guys suck for not letting Barnes and Noble stay!
So very sad to know of barnes and noble closing. It is the primary reason I moved to R Station apartments one month ago.
Yes, I am sad to see it go, but maybe the departure of the big box book stores will open opportunities for the smaller book stores of yesteryear!

It was just a great place to come and hang out for over the years. They had the best Starbucks vs Target and Kroger. It was also a great place to socialize! The Retail District will never be the same.
The retailers can expect to lose one more customer ....because B& N was the only reason 2 come to Edgewood. I'm out.

Located? I believe that was on the corner the briar cliff and lavista next to mellow mushroom across from the Hawaiian restaurant. I think that would be a perfect location.

Wow! So they close one of the only few profitable bookstores down in the area - and people wonder why Amazon is taking over retail markets. Just sad.
My son had robotics practice in the area on Saturdays and after his season ended this past spring, we had not been to this BandN. Once his season started back this Fall, my daughter and I were excited to get back to our favorite spot to hang out, drink Starbucks, read and do homework. We were sadly taken aback to discover our favorite hangout was gone. I've purchased so many books and gifts from here. All my daughter ever talked about was going to the bookstore which we do at least once a week. We have a BandN on our side of town but it didn't comepare to this one. Now we have to find something else to fill our Saturdays while we wait for my son to finish his long practices. We are just so sad.
I literally came here just to sit and browse the web on my laptop (after getting grub at Willy's). I sat down to google the hours of operation to be hit with this news. I definitely won't be returning to Edgewood shoping district.
That space is now Tesla.
