The Chai Box, a locally owned company selling chai blends and chai concentrate, has secured space for their first Chai Cafe and retail space. The company made the announcement this week on social media but did not disclose where the cafe would be or when it would open.
Shake Shack plans to open its newest Atlanta area restaurant Monday June 30 at The Battery Atlanta. The new restaurant will be unlike any the New York-based brand currently operates with a full bar and expansive patio as well as mini arcade area.

Taco Mac will close its location in Chattanooga at the end of normal service Sunday, June 22. The Atlanta-based chain had operated the location at 423 Market Street in downtown Chattanooga since 1998 and reportedly expanded it in the mid 2000s.
Kroger announced plans Friday to close sixty stores nationwide over the next eighteen months. The grocer did not reveal a list for the closures and indicated that one would not be provided.

Goodbye Doughnut Dollies. After reporting on the upcoming entry of Portland's Voodoo Donuts earlier this month, we were contacted by several readers indicating that Marietta's Doughnut Dollies had closed for good.
Del Taco has quietly closed one of its two Kennesaw locations. The corporately owned restaurant, located near the intersection of Barrett Parkway and Cobb Parkway in an outparcel of Kennesaw Marketplace, opened along with the Whole Foods in what was then a new center in 2017.
Jack in the Box will finally pop up in Georgia. The San Diego-based burger chain announced plans in June 2024 to enter Georgia with 15 units as part of its "strategic expansion across the Southeastern United States.”

On the heels of news that Mellow Mushroom is closing its Decatur restaurant after about nine years in business comes news that Glide Pizza, another local spot, is opening nearby. After nearly three years inside the taproom at nearby Inner Voice Brewing on Ponce de Leon Place, Glide Pizza will end service there on July 13.
Mellow Mushroom announced Monday that it has closed its location in Decatur... for a second time. The most recent Mellow Mushroom was located at 340 West Ponce having opened in December 2016.
A growing breakfast eatery called Keke's Breakfast Cafe is expanding its metro Atlanta presence with a new location in Tucker. The new Keke's is coming to 4353 Lawrenceville Highway, an outparcel of Cofer Crossing, where it will replace Applebee's Grill+Bar, which closed last May.
After sitting idle for nearly eight months, activity was spotted in recent days at the former Arby's at 4415 Roswell Road in Chastain Park. Although we heard of the would-be replacement late last year, we held out hope that something more exciting might swoop in as the deal was then not yet done.
ToNeTo Atlanta has learned that Foxtail Coffee has signed on to open a new location in Dunwoody at Ashford Lane. The new coffee shop and cafe will be located in a soon to be created 1,800 square foot space demised from the roughly 5,000 square foot former Panera, which closed in the center in December 2021.
With two locations coming soon, Portillo's has reportedly secured a third site in metro Atlanta, according to a real estate source familiar with the restaurant's plans.
Growing drive-thru coffee shop 7 Brew is looking to bring its business to Sandy Springs. The new 7 Brew is proposed for a currently vacant lot at 6400 Roswell Road, just north of where LongHorn Steakhouse closed its longstanding restaurant last May. The parcel is .63 acres, according to property documents.
June 6 was National Doughnut Day and with it comes news that Voodoo Doughnut has its eye on a metro Atlanta expansion. The popular doughnut shop was founded more than twenty years ago in Portland, Oregon, but has in the years since expanded to a chain of 23 locations with at least two more coming soon, according to its website.
With their metro Atlanta expansion well underway, planning documents now confirm that Raising Cane's is also entering the Birmingham market. The popular chicken chain will be opening along US-280 in an area already home to several rival eateries.
So-called "breastaurant" chain Hooters closed more than 30 restaurants this week, two months after it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Under the Hooters of America bankruptcy plan, 100 company-owned U.S. restaurants will be sold to a group of Hooters franchisees. The franchisees, who include Hooters’ founders, operate 14 of the 30 highest-volume Hooters restaurants in the U.S., the company said.
Just a day after the abrupt closure of Taco Mac in Midtown, fellow Metropolis (933 Peachtree Street) tenant Mukja has also closed. Mukja, which served Korean fried chicken, was Taco Mac's neighbor but located on the side of the residential building along Peachtree Place.

A new Dunkin' is coming to Lilburn. The new doughnut shop is opening in a freestanding building at 5335 Lawrenceville Highway where it replaces a former Hardee's that closed in early 2023 as part of a wave of closures in the burger chain's network.
