Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse plans to permanently close its restaurant at Phipps Plaza in Buckhead. ToNeTo Atlanta first got wind of the planned end of year closure in November but the news was officially confirmed this week when employees were informed of the imminent closure.
The restaurant, which occupies a roughly 10,000 square foot space on the first level of the Buckhead mall, first opened at the mall in 2010 and previously closed for several months between mid 2020 and 2021 as a result of COVID-19 related shutdowns. The restaurant was thought then to have been closed for good but reopened November 17, 2021 after completing a reported $250,000 renovation.
Davio's closure at Phipps Plaza comes on the heels of "reimagining" of the failed food hall formerly known as Citizens Culinary Market into the the far more exciting "Food Hall at Phipps." Full service restaurants including Grand Luxe Cafe, Public Kitchen & Bar (Agency Socialthèque), The Tavern at Phipps and Genuine Pizza have also all closed in the past few years at the once lively Buckhead mall.
Phipps Plaza owner Simon ultimately backfilled the former Genuine Pizza and Tavern at Phipps spaces with more retail while the former Agency and Grand Lux spaces sit empty and idle. (As for the mall itself, longtime General Manager Eric Howard was reassigned earlier this fall to Desert Hills Premium Outlets in California, and Laken Wilmot, a management veteran of both Macy's and Belk, was named the new General Manager of Phipps Plaza in November.)
Following its closure in Atlanta on December 28, Davio's will continue to operate six traditional restaurants in its home market of Massachusetts, an airport location at Logan International Airport in Boston, as well as restaurants at King of Prussia Town Center in King of Prussia, PA and another at Reston Row in Reston, VA.
Are you surprised by the closure of Davio's at Phipps Plaza in Buckhead? What types of restaurants would you like to see open at Phipps Plaza? Have you been to the revamped food hall?

It's no secret that Lenox and Phipps have struggled (relatively speaking) for several reasons. There just isn't the same level of foot traffic at Phipps now. The luxury stores seem to be hanging in there but it's more of a buy and leave scenario.
I've always felt Legoland and a move theater were an odd mix for the mall. Those are primarily family-oriented activities and the mix of stores isn't geared towards families.
More changes will be on the horizon.
Nobu can't be far behind.
A good start would be tossing Lego Land, bringing back The Tavern at Phipps and try to recapture that lost appeal of the location.
Wish we had known this. Our trip back to Atlanta involved a high end restaurant and the Atlanta symphony Christmas show. Service was slow and inattentive. When asked our waiter about 45 minutes of waiting if there was an issue and if we could settle the check and get some food before the show. They must have rush orders the food. Fish was cooked well hit had obsessing. Pasta and sauce had no taste or texture. We refused it and paid for our drinks and appetizer
@anon12:25.....so how was the waiter lacking focus? Your fourth sentence makes no sense. Your fifth sentence makes no sense. Your sixth sentence makes no sense. The pasta sauce had absolutely no flavor? I find that difficult to believe.
Always sad to hear when a business is closing, but they’ll likely figure out something else great to fill the space in 2026!
Thank you for this critique of the previous post. I, too, was saying to myself WTF? It amazes me how few people actually read what they have written before they click "publish". This must've been 'voice to text' with poor articulation.
Sorry to hear. It’s been one of my Favs. ; Sitting on the patio with my chocolate martini and Sea Bass .
