[ALERT] New "Upscale Mexican Steakhouse" to Replace Lure in Midtown Midtown

The former Lure Saltwater Kitchen & Bar in Midtown has been sold.  The roughly 5,100 square foot restaurant located at 1106 Crescent Avenue in Midtown opened in July 2012 and closed this past August.

In the months that followed, the restaurant had been open exclusively for private events and pop-ups before closing at the end of the year.

The owners of upscale Mexican restaurant Palo Santo purchased Lure, according to an update from Steve Josovitz of The Shumacher Group, who handled the sale.  Palo Santo opened in September 2022 at 955 West Marietta Street, offering upscale Mexican fare with rooftop views.

In place of Lure, business partners Felipe Rivera and Eduardo Rivera plan to open Botanico, an "upscale Mexican steakhouse," according to Josovitz's listing.

"I have been in the restaurant and hospitality business for several years here in Atlanta. I co-founded Botanico Kitchen & Bar in Buckhead in 2017, and since 2021, I have owned and operated Palo Santo, a modern Mexican-inspired restaurant and rooftop lounge in West Midtown. Most recently, I founded ORNO Cantina & Parrilla in Bogotá, Colombia, which opened in 2024. It is a Mexican-style steakhouse and cantina concept that combines Latin flavors with a lively, modern dining experience," says Felipe Rivera.

The duo partnered with Chef Santiago Gomez to create Palo Santo, but the chef will reportedly not be involved in the new project.

When Lure first opened, it replaced Vickery's Bar & Grill, which had occupied the Crescent Avenue space from 1983 until its closure in early 2011.

Interestingly, Lure being replaced by a Mexican restaurant is the second time a similar conversion has taken place in the area in recent months.  Midtown seafood eatery The Oceanaire closed in June 2025 and is being converted into Dos Caminos, an upscale Mexican restaurant, which is expected to open in the coming weeks.

Are you pleased to hear that a new upscale Mexican steakhouse is planned for Midtown?  What is your favorite Midtown Atlanta restaurant?  What type of restaurant do you think is missing from Midtown?
