[ALERT] Costco to Open Newest Metro Atlanta Store Sooner Than You Think

Metro Atlanta's latest Costco store is on track to open sooner than you might realize.  Construction began in April on the new store set to anchor "Mountain Marketplace" (1915 West Park Place Blvd) in Stone Mountain.

The project represents the redevelopment of land once home to a large tennis facility that played host to tennis matches during the Centennial Olympic Games in 1996.

According to the Costco website, the new store is expected to open in August!  Joining the roughly 150,000 square foot Costco in the new project are freestanding locations of Chick-fil-A, Whataburger, a bank, and a park, as well as a new 248 unit apartment community from Greystar.

The roughly 31 acre project also includes some land previously part of a former Super Target turned storage facility next door.  Mountain Marketplace is located just off US 78 and a stone's throw from the popular Netherworld Halloween attraction.

The new Costco will mark the Issaquah, Washington-based retailer's newest store in the greater metro Atlanta area since the November 2023 opening at The Bridges at Jodeco in Stockbridge.  The company also in recent years added new stores in Pooler (11/2021) and Athens (11/2022).   Overall, the company currently operates sixteen traditional warehouse clubs in the state along with one "Business Center" in Morrow.

Costco is one of the most productive and profitable companies in the world, having reported sales of nearly $270 billion in fiscal 2025, with average sales per warehouse at roughly $276 million.

Mountain Marketplace is being developed by Jeff Fuqua and his Fuqua Development.  Fuqua previously led The Sembler Co in Atlanta during which time he developed the Costco-anchored TOWN Brookhaven project in Brookhaven in 2010.

Are you excited about the opening of Costco in Stone Mountain?  Where else in metro Atlanta would you like to see Costco open?  Are you a member of both Costco and Sam's Club?

Please share your thoughts below.

Yeah!! I’m so happy you are opening a new one.

I’m a member of Costco and super excited that’s it’s coming, I would like to see more restaurants instead of fast food stores in the development plans

Fuqua is the worst. His Shopping centers are boring and middle of the road. They look old as soon as they open the door. Is like that company has no creativity. They are stuck in the Brady bunch age. Wish they would stop developing and close up the store.

Please ensure parking and traffic flow is well thought out. Brookhaven Costco is a nightmare

Happy to have a Costco close soon!

Big whoop another ripoff store

They could have just bought and repurposed the old Cub Foods property or taken over a chunk of the Marshalls/Ross center.

Yes, excited. I am literally less than 10mins away. Our area has gone without for many years. I have a Costco membership that I don't use as frequently because I have to make the trek to Duluth, Brookhaven or Dunwoody..which requires planning while out. I wish they would have included a Chipotle as a tenant; the closest is L'ville Hwy & Indian Trail, Snellville or Hugh Howell.

Stone Mountain is not metro Atlanta too far to drive from downtown

That area really fell in. I'm not sure that Costco can ensure the safety of its members in the parking lot

Lookout Tucker and Stone Mountain Sams Club

Yes, yes it is.

Agreed, SM is not metro Atlanta, but it seems to this blog and its patrons, it's metro Atlanta from the Zero Mile Marker to the state lines.

I'll still use both, though

The Tucker Sam's Club is probably toast as soon as the City of Tucker puts a median down the middle of Mountain Industrial and wipes out left turns in or out of 2 entrances.

You must not live in the area. It’s coming to Stone Mountain Gwinnett.

Stop gaslighting. It is planned to be built next to the former Super Target, Archer Foods site. Target spent millions there building and stocking a beautiful store before they had to abandon it. A good location on paper, but criminal misbehavior and really low grade quality of customer base put the nails in the coffin.

Anonymous said...

Disagreed, it is part of metro. You might not like it but you don’t decide.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, no. Criminals had nothing to do with it. That Target was awesome because it was never busy. At the time the joke was we need to support this place so it won't leave.

Its not built yet, how can they "close up the store?"

Anonymous said...

Not true, very safe. Walmart does very well there. They need this in the area. The Target failed because they had too many.

“Metro Atlanta” has expanded over the past 10-15 years. Even places like canton and Cartersville are expanding with urban sprawl. We moved further out when we bought a house and I appreciate the more regional coverage over just some ITP crap
