[EXCLUSIVE] Raising Cane's Looking to Open in Former East Cobb Burger Joint

As ToNeTo Atlanta continues to be your number one source for updates on the Atlanta market expansion of Raising Cane's, we are pleased to report that another Raising Cane's is moving forward!

A new Raising Cane's is planned for 1312 Johnson Ferry Road, where it will replace a former longtime Wendy's that closed in February after nearly fifty years in business.

If it happens, the new East Cobb Raising Cane's could mark the chain's fifteenth location in Georgia and third in Cobb County.

The company opened a new restaurant in Kennesaw this past January with another planned for Cobb Parkway in Smyrna.

ToNeTo Atlanta exclusively reported in November 2024 that Raising Cane's plans to open new locations on Piedmont Road in Buckhead and on 14th Street in West Midtown, where in both cases the chain is replacing former Krystal restaurants.  The Piedmont and 14th Street restaurants are finally under construction, with a company representative telling ToNeTo Atlanta that both are slated for 2027 openings.

In May we exclusively reported that Raising Cane's is also moving forward with a location along Roswell Road in North Buckhead near Chastain Park.

Previously with just one Georgia location in Athens, Raising Cane's has in recent years opened several new locations throughout the greater metro Atlanta area, and now has more than a dozen in the state.

ToNeTo Atlanta has reported on several other upcoming Cane's locations, including the aforementioned Buckhead and West Midtown units, as well as another planned for Valdosta.

For those unfamiliar - aka non-"Caniacs" - of which there don't seem to be many, Raising Cane's features a very simple menu with a focus on fried chicken fingers.  Menu offerings also include a fried chicken sandwich, crinkle-cut fries, Texas Toast, coleslaw, and not much else.  University of Georgia graduate Todd Graves, along with his business partner Craig Silvey, opened the first Raising Cane's in Baton Rouge near the LSU campus in 1996.

Earlier this year, the company surpassed 1,000 Raising Cane's restaurants across 44 states, plus Guam and Washington D.C.

Are you excited about the opening of Raising Cane's in East Cobb?  Who do you think makes the best chicken tenders?  Where else in metro Atlanta would you like to see Raising Cane's open?

Please share your thoughts below.

No, we were hoping for a Shake Shack, not another chicken place. Guthrie’s and Zaxby’s are both just down the road at Johnson Ferry and Lower Roswell. 😞

If Raising Canes opens there, you might as well announce the closing of Guthrie’s just down the street. Guthrie’s is drive thru takeout only, so those that want to dine in has to use a picnic table they have outside. It will also have a negative impact on the Willy’s Howlin Chicken and Super Chick locations very close by.

That’s gonna be a nightmare traffic scenario.

The absolute LAST thing we need is another chicken joint to join, Zaxby’s, Chick FIL A, Howlings, Guthrie’s, Super Chick, and Chick Salad Chick….all within less than 1 mile!!!! Of each other…..please NO MORE CHICKEN JOINTS!!!

Raising Cane's will be irrelevant and left behind whatever trend is around the corner by the time they have the one on Piedmont Rd open.

It should have been a Culver’s

What’s the thing we need most?

Raising Cane’s needs to come to Fayetteville or Union City Georgia.

Who's "we"?

I think this would be a great spot for a hookah lounge. The nearest one I’m aware of is Baes lounge on piedmont road. If they can get the vibe right I think hookah would thrive and be loved by the local community.

Raising Cane’s has started demolition of the old Krystal on Northside Drive at 14th Street.

What we need the most is more Krystal's and Arby's.

Go by there and tell the construction crew to stop and make it hookah instead. They’ll probably do it!

Looking forward to dining there.

The clientele at the old krystal will be less than desirable .
