[EXCLUSIVE] Forget Buc-ee's, Wawa Bringing its Fuel and Food to Even More Georgia Communities

ToNeTo Atlanta has identified yet another upcoming Georgia location for Wawa, the popular chain of convenience stores and gas stations.  Planning documents reviewed by ToNeTo Atlanta indicate a new Wawa is planned for 4589 North Valdosta Road in Valdosta in Lowndes County. 

[EXCLUSIVE] Handel's Bringing "The Best Ice Cream on the Planet" to Midtown

A new-to-market ice cream shop has secured a familiar intown location.  Handel's Homemade Ice Cream, which got its start in Youngstown, Ohio in 1945, has signed a lease for a 962 square foot space in the Trader Joe's-anchored Midtown Promenade (931 Monroe Drive), Suite 300.  

[WOW] MOD Pizza Closes in Chamblee Shopping Center

One of metro Atlanta's original locations of MOD Pizza has closed.  The pizza shop, located in Peachtree Station in Chamblee, closed permanently in recent days after a little more than five years in business.  

[ALERT] California Pizza Chain to Close Another Atlanta Area Restaurant

California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) will this weekend permanently close its restaurant in Peachtree Corners.  The restaurant, located in The Forum (5173 Peachtree Parkway) is due to close at 6 PM, Sunday March 31, according to a restaurant employee.  The roughly 5,500 square foot restaurant first opened in May 2009.

[ALERT] IKEA to Assemble Micro Store in Alpharetta This Summer

IKEA today announced plans to open a new concept "Plan & order point with Pick-up," in Alpharetta. The new customer meeting point will be located in Mansell Crossing, a large power center along North Point Parkway, just off Exit 8 of Georgia 400.  

[EXCLUSIVE] TJ Maxx is Finally Bringing Homesense to Georgia

It's been nearly seven years since we first reported on TJX Cos. then new concept store, Homesense.  The store, a companion to HomeGoods in the same way Marshalls is a companion to TJ Maxx, stocks housewares and home accessories but with a different product assortment than its TJX sibling.   Now, with fifty-six stores open and three more opening in April, we've finally confirmed where the first Atlanta area store will be. 

[ALERT] Usher Gets "Caught Up" in Dave's Hot Chicken Franchise

Multi-Grammy award winning entertainer and musician Usher is looking to get [back] into franchising.   According to a March 27 release, Usher, born Usher Raymond IV, is joining a franchise group that plans to bring as many as nine locations of Dave's Hot Chicken to metro Atlanta in the coming years.   The release did not indicate where or when any locations would open in metro Atlanta, only that Usher was going to be involved.

[UPDATE] Inman Park Restaurant Hampton + Hudson Not Reopening

Hampton+Hudson, a neighborhood bar & restaurant in Inman Park, has closed.  The restaurant posted to its Instagram page March 2 saying "we are temporarily closed for maintenance," but multiple former employees as well as others close to owner and serial restaurateur Billy Streck tell ToNeTo Atlanta the restaurant is in fact closed permanently.  

[CLOSURE ALERT] Corner Bakery Closes Another Cafe Leaving Only One in Atlanta

Corner Bakery has closed yet another Atlanta area location.  The bakery/cafe occupied a roughly 4,000 square foot space at Peachtree Square North (6050 Peachtree Parkway), a large shopping center anchored by Dick's Sporting Goods, and closed in recent days, according to a ToNeTo Atlanta reader.

This past December ToNeTo Atlanta first reported that beloved specialty grocer Trader Joe's was looking to add as many as six new stores to the greater metro Atlanta area.  At the time, only the store planned for Halcyon in Alpharetta was identified.  We are pleased now to share several incredibly well placed sources tell us that another lease has been signed.

[OPENING ALERT] Caribou Coffee Opening Next Week in Loganville

Caribou Coffee is set to open its latest Atlanta area location Tuesday, March 26 in Loganville. The new, roughly 2,400 square foot coffeehouse, is located at 4360 Atlanta Highway.  As ToNeTo Atlanta exclusively reported this past December, the new Caribou Coffee occupies a former Hardee's, one of more than a dozen that a large franchisee of the burger joint closed in metro Atlanta in 2023.

[EXCLUSIVE] Whataburger Looking to Replace Familiar Former Restaurant in East Cobb

They're at it again!  After sitting vacant since its abrupt closure this past June, a former O'Charley's restaurant in East Cobb is being targeted for redevelopment into Cobb County's latest Whataburger!  Located at 3550 Sandy Plains Road, the 6,948 square foot building is slated to be demolished and rebuilt as a new Whataburger restaurant, according to plans reviewed by ToNeTo Atlanta.   

[EXCLUSIVE] Popular Midtown Pizza Shop Abruptly Shutters

DaVinci's Pizzeria has closed its Midtown Atlanta location.  The restaurant, located at 1270 West Peachtree Street, was the locally owned group's second pizza shop and opened in 2010.  The restaurant was located across the street from the Arts Center MARTA station in an area also home to numerous office buildings and hotels.  

[EXCLUSIVE] Jim 'N Nick's Continues Cobb County Love Affair

Jim 'N Nick's Community Bar-B-Q is apparently a big fan of Cobb County.  A real estate source told ToNeTo Atlanta months ago that the popular barbecue eatery was looking to open a new location in place of the former Chili's in West Cobb and newly filed planning documents indicate those plans are moving forward.

[EXCLUSIVE] North Carolina Coffee Shop to Open in Dunwoody

Summit Coffee is out to conquer the Atlanta market with plans to open a third metro location in the months to come.  Planning materials reviewed by ToNeTo Atlanta suggest that the new Summit will open at the Shops of Dunwoody shopping center (5482 Chamblee Dunwoody Road, Suite #23A) where it will open in a 1,531 square foot space in place of what was most recently Nancy's Shoppe, a women's clothing boutique.

[ALERT] New Wholesale Grocery Store Coming to Sandy Springs

A new kind of grocery store is coming to Sandy Springs.  CHEF'STORE, a wholesale grocery store designed for restaurant owners, will open its first ever Atlanta area store at 6337 Roswell Road in Sandy Springs.  The new store will open in place of the short-lived Lidl in the center today known as City Center Crossing.

[CLOSURE ALERT] Boutique Fitness Facility BURN Studios Ending Operations

The flame is going out for one Atlanta fitness business.  BURN Studios, a cycle, yoga, and kickboxing fitness facility announced Friday that they will close their Buckhead location in Chastain Park, their final studio still in operation, in April. BURN started in Brookhaven in October 2015 before opening in Buckhead in January 2018 and in the Plaza on Ponce in September 2019. 

[EXCLUSIVE] Brooklyn-Based and "Australian-Inspired" Isla & Co. Shutters Lone Atlanta Restaurant

Isla & Co., an "Australian-inspired" cafe, has closed its lone Atlanta area eatery.  The restaurant, located in Andrews Square (56 East Andrews Drive), opened in December 2022 and closed "about four weeks ago," according to locals in the area.  The Buckhead restaurant was to be the first of up to three in Atlanta for the Brooklyn-based chain.

ToNeTo Atlanta has uncovered plans for yet another Atlanta area Whataburger.  This time the Texas burger joint is looking to open in Loganville in Walton County.  The new Whataburger is planned for 4764 Atlanta Highway (US Highway 78) where it will occupy a roughly two acre property. 

[PERK UP] Caribou Coffee Prepares To Celebrate Newest Atlanta Opening

Caribou Coffee is set to open its latest Atlanta area location Wednesday, March 20 at 3280 Barrett Lakes Boulevard in Kennesaw. The new, roughly 2,500 square foot coffeehouse, is located near the intersection of Barrett Lakes Boulevard and Chastain Road, a stone's throw from the campus of Kennesaw State University.  As ToNeTo Atlanta exclusively reported this past October, the new Caribou Coffee occupies a short-lived former Burger King. 

[ALERT] Athleisure Brand Goes Quiet, Plans to Close All Retail Stores

Upstart athletic apparel business Outdoor Voices will close all of its retail stores this week and return to an online only model.  The lone Atlanta store, situated in The Krog District (124 Krog Street), has barely been open a year, having debuted February 17, 2023.   

[ALERT] West Midtown Project Adding new Dumpling Joint in Place of Charleston Chicken Chain

A fledgling chicken chain plans to close its lone Atlanta area location after less than a year in business.  Boxcar Betty's, a fast-casual eatery focusing on fried chicken sandwiches, but also salads, tenders, burgers, and fries, among other options, plans to close at West Midtown's Westside Paper as of Friday, March 15.

A longtime Boston Market location in a prized intown market will soon be converted into a new restaurant.  Planning documents reviewed by ToNeTo Atlanta indicate that a new Zaxby's is planned for 2535 Briarcliff Road, near its intersection with North Druid Hills Road, in Brookhaven.

[ICYMI] Midtown Quiznos Closes After Two Decades in Business

Quiznos Subs has closed one of its last locations in metro Atlanta.  According to a sign on the restaurant's door, the Quiznos at 710 Peachtree Street (Crest on Peachtree Apartments) in Midtown closed for good as of February 22.  The franchised location reportedly survived two decades, but the owners opted not to sign a new lease.

[ALERT] Failed Franchise Offers A Masterclass in Tacos Done Wrong

A Florida-based taco joint has abruptly closed its two Atlanta area locations as well as multiple locations in its home market.  Capital Tacos, which opened its Atlanta area locations less than a year ago, has now closed both.  The Atlanta restaurants - located in Johns Creek and Peachtree Corners - opened in May and November 2023, respectively.  

[EXCLUSIVE] Owner of Atlanta-Based Multi-Unit Taqueria Looking to Exit the Biz

Several real estate listings and multiple sources close to the situation tell ToNeTo Atlanta that all four locations of Red Pepper Taqueria are being shopped with the possibility that some or all could close in the near future.  The restaurants all opened between 2012 and 2021.

[ALERT] Century Old Retailer to Face The Music, Shutter Several Stores

Sam Ash Music, which this year is celebrating 100 years in business, will soon exit the Atlanta market as part of an overall reduction in the retailer's brick-and-mortar presence.  The Atlanta store, located at 2999 Cobb Parkway at the edge of Akers Mill Square, in recent days started liquidation sales with the store slated to close for good in May.

[ALERT] Bonchon Bringing Bibimbab and Bulgogi to Brookside Station

Popular Korean fried chicken eatery Bonchon will finally add a second Atlanta area location.  After making its Georgia debut in Fayetteville in 2016, the new Bonchon will open on the northside in Alpharetta.  Specifically, the new Bonchon will be located in a 1,521 square foot space in Brookside Station (4055 Old Milton Parkway), a strip center not far from Avalon.  

[EXCLUSIVE] A "Fluffy" New Franchise to Taking its Treats to Tucker

Growing Asian desert franchise Fluffy Fluffy plans to open its third Atlanta area location later this year in Tucker.  The new shop is planned for Northlake Tower Festival (3983 LaVista Road) where it will open in place of Uncle Maddio's Pizza which closed this past May.  The space, suite #115, is 2,479 square feet.  

[EXCLUSIVE] Growing Donut Franchise Looks to Continue Suburban Success

For the first time in more than five years, a new Duck Donuts is opening in metro Atlanta.  Planning documents and an updated siteplan confirm that a new location of the donut franchise is coming to Silesboro Oaks (1720 Mars Hill Road), a Kroger-anchored shopping center in Acworth.  Duck Donuts will occupy a roughly 1,400 square foot space to the left of Kroger.

It's been more than six months since our report on the uncertainty of a previously planned Publix at Phase 2 of The Interlock in West Midtown.  Several sources with knowledge of the situation now tell ToNeTo Atlanta that a lease was recently executed with Lidl, one of the two grocers we named in our report as likely contenders.
