[EXCLUSIVE] STK No Longer Moving Forward with Planned Buckhead Restaurant

This past February we reported that STK, the popular New York steakhouse with one existing location in Midtown Atlanta, was planning to open a second location in Buckhead.  We have now learned those plans have been cancelled and the steakhouse will not be opening in Buckhead after all.

The opening of the "vibey" steakhouse was reportedly not received well by the Home Owners Association (HOA) of the neighboring Waldorf-Astoria and as a result, the restaurant pulled out of the plan.

Del Frisco's Grille opened at the property in 2012, replacing the short-lived craft and craftbar restaurants, concepts from celebrity chef Tom Colicchio.  The pair of restaurants opened at what was then The Mansion on Peachtree, A Rosewood Hotel, in late 2008, but closed in early 2011.  The hotel became a Mandarin Oriental in 2012 before being reflagged in late 2018 to the current Waldorf Astoria brand.  Del Frisco's closed in August 2023.

The Buckhead restaurant space, which spans two publicly accessible floors, includes about 9,000 square feet, and is located at 3376 Peachtree Road, in front of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.

The space is once again actively being marketed for lease

Are you surprised to hear STK has abandoned its plans for this Buckhead restaurant?  What is your favorite steakhouse in metro Atlanta?  What would you like to see open in place of Del Frisco's Grille in this space?

Please share your thoughts below.

American Deli or Checkers

Curious what the HOA was opposed to. I work near the midtown location, and have never dined there, but I know the menu is quite expensive, so seems like that would be the kind of desired clientele.

NIMBYs. Why is the Waldorf Astoria HOA (with million dollar+ condos) opposed to a high priced steakhouse nearby? Too many steakhouses in the area?

I'd be pissed too if my $4 million condo lost a quarter of its value in the past 15 years because of how much North Buckhead has gone downhill. The area looks like sh*t and is full of scammer Airbnbs and street racers.

Because of the clientele.

High priced, yes. High end, no. STK is far from upscale. Del Frisco's should have converted its "Grille" concept to a Double Eagle in this space.

STK is too clubby. The noise levels are way above normal restaurants. It is also not a premium steakhouse.

Nailed it.

STK is described as a upscale steakhouse and LOUNGE. It would be a great addition to any other place but Buckhead. By now, everyone knows why.

Something like STK is Ghetto Catnip in that location. While it's certainly a shame, the HOA is correct in wanting those particular "Cats" to stay away.

Too many high quality steakhouses in Buckhead. You can throw a stone and hit one or two in any direction.

Because it's essentially high-priced Hookah.

If you have funds you can go to stk.
But most of the clientele cannot pay.
But there could be another way.
Make it a hookah lounge and the crowd will boom.
And property values will doom.
