[EXCLUSIVE] Emerald City Bagel to Debut BeltLine Location in July, Northern China Eatery Coming Soon

A new location of popular local bagel shop Emerald City Bagel along the Atlanta BeltLine is finally nearing completion.  Located at 678 Edgewood Avenue on the BeltLine level of the 114-unit Citizen apartment community, the new Emerald City Bagel was first announced in 2022 and after sitting seemingly nearly complete for several weeks, we are told the shop plans to open July 8!

[ALERT] Chick-fil-A Shutters Legacy Doraville Restaurant For Renovation

One of metro Atlanta's last remaining 90s era Chick-fil-A restaurants is being given a facelift.  The freestanding restaurant at 5700 Buford Highway in Doraville closed earlier this week to undergo a significant renovation.  Property records indicate that the restaurant first opened in 1990 making it one of the Atlanta-based chicken chain's oldest restaurants company wide.  

[EXCLUSIVE] Lulah Hills Launch Event Seems to Subtlely Confirm First "New" Tenant

June 26 marked the "official" start of work to turn "dead mall" North DeKalb Mall into Lulah Hills, a mixed use development from developer EDENS.  The firm, who owns dozens of shopping centers around the country - including Toco Hills - spoke highly of the vibrant community and their plans for the 73+ acre property at this week's launch event but did not reveal any tenants planned for the project... or did they?

[ALERT] Korean + Mexican Fusion Restaurant Takorea to Close in Dunwoody

Dunwoody will soon lose a locally owned restaurant after a decade in business.  Takorea, a Korean-Mexican fusion restaurant located in the Kroger-anchored Georgetown Shopping Center (4474 Chamblee Dunwoody Road) will close after dinner service this coming Sunday, June 30.

Nearly three years after completing their purchase of North DeKalb Mall, real estate firm EDENS will June 26 host a ceremonial demolition event [despite the fact that demolition  started June 24] to mark the start of their planned decade long redevelopment plan.  

[ALERT] "Breastaurant" Chain Hooters Goes Through Store "Reduction," Georgia Restaurants Affected

Hooters is the latest casual dining restaurant chain to close dozens of locations amid a challenging operating environment.  Reports of abrupt closures in markets from Charlotte to West Palm Beach began spreading Sunday evening.  About 40 restaurants around the U.S. have closed, according to local news reports.  Texas was hardest hit with fifteen closures.

[WOW] SocialBites Food Hub New Name of "Empty" and "Terrible" Sandy Springs Restaurants

What do you do if after adding a third, and later a fourth concept to a single restaurant location and people are still not coming?  You change the name, of course! The owners of a group of Sandy Springs restaurants - all housed in a single location - are changing the destination's name in an effort to appeal to more diners.  Despite the appellation "ghost town" being an apt description of the venue, the new name will be "SocialBites Food Hub."

Chef Wang's in Grant Park is closing.  The restaurant, located in the 65 unit Oakland Park condominium building (563 Memorial Drive), opened this past July when it replaced Doc Chey's Noodle House.

[WOW] Now Owned by Georgia Firm, Subway Looking to Grow Georgia Presence

Less than sixty days after completing its sale to an Atlanta-based firm, Subway is reportedly looking to grow its presence in Georgia.  Subway, which has roughly 37,000 restaurants worldwide, announced April 30 that it had completed its $9.6 billion sale to affiliates of Atlanta-based Roark Capital Group.

[UPDATE] Assets of Hampton + Hudson Restaurant & Bar to be Sold at Auction

On March 27 we published a report that indicated that Inman Park restaurant Hampton+Hudson was permanently closed, rather than temporarily, as the restaurant had earlier indicated.  While we admit we never spoke directly with ownership, we felt comfortable enough in our report given the amount of information we were able to gather, that our reporting was accurate.

Doughnut Dollies has closed their Virginia Highland outpost with plans already underway for another bakery to open in their space soon after.  Marietta-based Doughnut Dollies opened at 1002 Virginia Avenue (at its intersection with North Highland Avenue) on August 21, 2021, marking the locally owned business's third location in metro Atlanta.

[EXCLUSIVE] Desi District Destined for Dormant Dunwoody Dining Space

A new kind of restaurant is planning to make its Georgia debut in Dunwoody.  Desi District, a Texas based eatery specializing in Indian fare has signed a lease to replace the former Chili's Grill & Bar (4784 Ashford Dunwoody Road) in Ashford Place.  Chili's closed its restaurant in the center this past August after 30 years in business.

[EXCLUSIVE] Ansley Mall to Add Big New Barbecue Restaurant Along Recent BeltLine Extension

A South Carolina barbecue joint is looking to make its Peach state premiere.  Planning documents reviewed by ToNeTo Atlanta suggest that Lewis Barbecue, based in Charleston, is coming to Ansley Mall in Midtown. The new barbecue restaurant would open in the suddenly BeltLine facing space to the rear of the landmark Atlanta center located at 1544 Piedmont Avenue.

[EXCLUSIVE] Shipley Do-Nuts Abandons Duluth Site, Future Atlanta Expansion Unclear

If you were looking forward to a Shipley Do-Nuts in Duluth, don't hold your breath.  First announced in May 2022, the Duluth location was to have opened by the end of 2022 but never did.  A separate franchise group ultimately opened metro Atlanta's first and currently only Shipley Do-Nuts location on Keith Bridge Road in Cumming in March 2023.  

[ALERT] Walmart Closing Atlanta Area Stores in Dunwoody and East Cobb

Walmart announced today it will be closing two stores in metro Atlanta.  The closures, to occur in July, affect stores in East Cobb and Dunwoody.  The East Cobb store, operating under the "Walmart Neighborhood Market" banner, opened in 2014, while the Dunwoody store, a "Walmart Supercenter," opened in 1995.

[ALERT] Jack in the Box Will Finally "Pop Up" in Georgia

Jack in the Box plans to open as many as 15 units in Georgia, the San Diego-based company announced Tuesday. The openings, which are slated to occur over an unspecified amount of time, will focus on the Augusta, Savannah, and Macon markets, rather than metro Atlanta, as one might have hoped.  

[EXCLUSIVE] Tim Hortons Finds New Home For Next Metro Atlanta Location

A former CVS Pharmacy in Johns Creek is being converted into several new businesses.  The former pharmacy and drugstore, located at 10710 State Bridge Road at East Morton Road, reportedly closed in late 2022 and has been marketed for lease for more than a year.  As many as five new businesses are planned for the former pharmacy with leases already signed with two.

[EXCLUSIVE] Arden's Garden Bringing its Healthy Eats to South Atlanta UTBAPH

Arden's Garden plans to open a new location at 5238 Old National Highway in south Atlanta.   The new juice and smoothie eatery is opening in a onetime Pizza Hut that property records indicate was first built in 1973.  The building is about 1,800 square feet and sits on one acre of land.  

[ALERT] Popular Dry Cleaners Going Out of Business in Chastain Park

EZ One Price Cleaners, a business that debuted its services at $1.99 and ultimately doubled their price, is "going out of business."  The dry cleaners, located at 4314 Roswell Road in Chastain Park, first opened in 2013 and eventually grew to also include locations on Cheshire Bridge Road (2014) and another on Roswell Road in Sandy Springs (2015).

[UPDATE] Red Lobster Looks to Shutter Several More Suburban Atlanta Units

Struggling casual restaurant Red Lobster, which last month filed for bankruptcy and abruptly closed about 50 restaurants, is now looking to close several dozen more.  The initial closures included three restaurants in Georgia: Roswell (1050 Holcomb Bridge Road), Athens (1956 W. Broad Street), and Dublin (2105 Veterans Boulevard).

[ALERT] Blaze Pizza Moving From Hollywood to Y'allywood

Blaze Pizza has announced what we heard rumored last year: the company's headquarters are moving from southern California to metro Atlanta.  In announcing the move, the "build your own pizza" company indicated it expects the relocation to be complete by September but did not identify an exact office location.

This past June ToNeTo Atlanta was first to report on a third Velvet Taco planned for metro Atlanta.  We are pleased to share now that, the new restaurant, located in the new High Street project in Dunwoody, is slated to open July 1!  Velvet Taco Dunwoody is situated in a 2,200 square foot corner space (100 Middle Street) along Perimeter Center Parkway, across from Perimeter Mall.
