[UPDATE] Revitalized Shopping Center Continues to Land New Tenants

Atlanta-based real estate investment company Garner Group has secured two more leases in its continued efforts to enhance a suburban shopping center.  The firm, headquartered in Buckhead, acquired Heritage Hills, a 219,165 square foot shopping center at 1355 East-West Connector in Austell, at the end of 2020.

A new Tim Hortons is planned for Fairburn.  The new doughnut and coffee shop is coming to 7940 Senoia Road where it will replace a former Hardee's that closed last year as part of the struggles and eventual bankruptcy of franchisee Summit Restaurant Holdings, LLC.  Planning documents suggest that Tim Hortons will make use of the existing 2,586 square foot building and renovate it to suit its needs.

Stop us if you've heard this one before: A new restaurant is looking to revolutionize quick-serve Italian fare and without having a single location open, seems to be preparing to franchise.  Pochino Italy, described as a fast-casual Italian eatery, will be looking to do just that when it opens later this year in Kennesaw.

After several delays and a few unforeseen challenges - and a pre-opening location pivot - metro Atlanta will later this year welcome a third outpost of healthy fast casual eatery Original ChopShop.   Previously slated to open at 10800 Haynes Bridge Road, delivery delays of what would have been a new "white box" space led the Plano-based operator to change their plans.

[ALERT] Local Burger Joint Scores "Killer" Location For New Upper Westside Spot

If you had a new burger joint on your Upper Westside wish life, you're in luck!  Grindhouse Killer Burgers, the locally owned burger spot with several locations around town, plans to open its next location near The Works, along Chattahoochee Avenue in the growing Upper Westside community.  The new restaurant, the eighth overall, will be situated on a half-acre lot at 1221 Chattahoochee Avenue, at the corner of Ellsworth Industrial Boulevard, formerly a SunTrust Bank.

[EXCLUSIVE] Short-Lived Restaurant Says Sayonara to Star Metals

Wagamama, which made its Atlanta during the summer of 2022, has closed.  The Asian restaurant, located in West Midtown at 1050 Howell Mill Road in the Star Metals development, was an import from London and seemingly never gained a following in metro Atlanta.  The restaurant reportedly quietly closed last week, later displaying signage that the closure was due to "technical difficulties."  

[ALERT] Grant Park Outpost of Local Burger Joint Put Out to Pasture

After nearly six years in business, Farm Burger Grant Park has closed.  The roughly 1,900 square foot restaurant, located at 275 Memorial Drive in Link Apartments® Canvas (originally The George Apartments), opened in March 2018 and closed quietly last week, according to a source at the Atlanta-based business.  

[UPDATE] Lenox a Little Less Caffeinated Following Coffee Closure

Starbucks, the hugely popular coffee chain with roughly 40,000 locations worldwide, has now permanently closed its locations in both Phipps Plaza and Lenox Square.  Both locations occupied prime mall-level space and have been fixtures in their respective malls for roughly two decades, likely longer.

Kennesaw area residents are in for a sweet treat!  Sugar Shane's, a popular intown cookie shop, has signed their first franchise with plans to open near Kennesaw Mountain in February.  The new shop - 1635 Old Highway 41 - is located in a 1,253 square foot space in the Publix-anchored Barrett Parkway shopping center.

[UPDATE] Sarah's Shoe Stores Struggle to Secure Sustained Success

A store heralded as part of the metamorphosis of Buckhead Village District has closed.  Sarah Flint, a women's shoe and accessory retailer, closed its store at 260 Buckhead Avenue after a little more than a year in business.

[Taps] Marietta Military Retailer Signing Off After Nearly Seven Decades of Service

Hodge Army Navy, a Marietta mainstay for nearly 70 years, is signing off.  The store, currently located at East Marietta Commons - 1477 Roswell Road - behind Williamson Bros. BBQ, is currently liquidating all in-stock merchandise ahead of what is advertised to be its last day January 28.  The store is currently offering 25 per cent off basically all in-stock merchandise with select seasonal and specialty items reduced even further.

[WOAH] Alpharetta Restaurant Shutters After Less Than A Year, Now For Sale

Yumbii has closed its incredibly short-lived taco shop near Avalon in Alpharetta.  The restaurant - located at 2685 Old Milton Parkway - was announced in January 2022 with a planned opening that spring.  For unspecified reasons the restaurant did not open until April 2023.

[ALERT] Huge New Card Shop Opening Soon in Metro Atlanta

A new kind of retail store is opening soon in metro Atlanta and promises to be unlike any you have visited.  CardsHQ, as its name suggests, will be a store dedicated to trading cards, but will also feature interactive and immersive experiences for customers and collectors alike.  The new store will be located less than two miles from Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves.  

[EXCLUSIVE] After Debuting at Perimeter Mall, Retailer Looks to Add Lenox Square Store

Popular Spanish fashion brand Mango seems to be joining the tenant lineup at Lenox Square in Buckhead.  A "commercial alteration" permit filed with the City of Atlanta January 10 indicates that the company will spend at least $900,000 for an "interior renovation for a new mercantile tenant."  The permit does not specify a suite or space but does list the size as 5,872 square feet.  

[OPENING ALERT] First New Atlanta Area Caribou Coffee in Ten Years Opening This Weekend

ToNeTo Atlanta is pleased to report that metro Atlanta's first new Caribou Coffee in a decade is slated to open Friday, January 19 in Milton. The new shop is located at 12996 Alpharetta Highway, where it converted a former Del Taco restaurant.  ToNeTo Atlanta exclusively reported this past fall that Caribou Coffee was planning to open at least four new locations in metro Atlanta with this new Milton outpost now confirmed to be the first.

[CLOSURE ALERT] Atlanta Tex-Mex Chain Shutters Local Restaurant

On The Border has closed its Buford restaurant after more than two decades in business.  The restaurant, located at 3206 Buford Drive, opened in 2001 and was located across from the Mall of Georgia.  The roughly 6,000 square foot restaurant closed quietly in recent days according to a ToNeTo Atlanta reader in the area.

[UPDATE] Popular Canadian Coffee & Donut Shop Now Open in Midtown Atlanta

Atlanta's first Tim Hortons is now open!  The new coffee shop and bakery opened as part of an existing BP at the corner of North Avenue and Spring Street, just off I-85 in Midtown.  The new Tim Hortons - "Tims" at 610 Spring Street - replaced what had previously been a Dunkin' franchise.  The new shop marks just the second in the state following the June 2023 opening of a freestanding Tim Hortons in Columbus.  

[ALERT] Landmark Atlanta Burger & Bar Business Sold to Taco Mac Owners

Taco Mac and The Vortex now share a single owner, according to multiple sources familiar with the two restaurants, and recently confirmed by representatives for Taco Mac.  The transaction reportedly closed at the end of 2023.  In collaboration with partner and Morehouse grad Harold Martin Jr., Nashville-based Fresh Hospitality made the purchase, adding The Vortex to its growing stable of regional concepts.

[CLOSURE ALERT] Local Mexican Restaurant Group Down to Dos After Dunwoody Closure

Cinco Mexican Cantina has closed its restaurant at Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody after about five and half years in business.  The locally owned restaurant reportedly closed quietly last week leaving would-be patrons surprised and disappointed when they tried to visit this week and found the doors locked and the restaurant empty.  The Perimeter Mall location is still listed on the Cinco website and on the mall's website.

We first introduced you to The Bronx Bagel Buggy this past July.  At the time, the owners had planned to open in early September.  As is so often the case in restaurant buildout, that timeline came and went, as did October and November.

An upscale seafood restaurant may finally enter the Atlanta market.  Eddie V's Prime Seafood, an upscale brand from Darden Restaurants, is seeking to open its first restaurant in Georgia, in Alpharetta.  The new restaurant is being proposed for 11405 Haynes Bridge Road on the site of what was most recently Sage Woodfire Tavern.  Locally owned Sage closed in 2018 following its Chapter 11 bankruptcy

Atlanta is finally getting a Whataburger! Yes, Atlanta! Atlanta, like inside the perimeter with an Atlanta address, Atlanta.  ToNeTo Atlanta was first to report on the planned restaurant in March 2023.  After several false starts, the new Whataburger at 2955 Cobb Parkway, Suite 910 (Akers Mill Square) is expected to open Tuesday January 16, according to an employee at the restaurant.

Blue Ribbon Grill - 4006 LaVista Road - a longstanding Tucker area restaurant, is on the move.  The classic American restaurant has been a Tucker staple for nearly four decades but its current owners have opted not to renew their lease and plan to relocate elsewhere in Tucker.
